a!
[Newly single and the first timer ticking closer to zero, Akashi goes about his daily business as a professional shogi player. His routine includes visiting a coffee shop a train ride away to answer emails (he's been fending off this one offer for a really weird commercial for weeks), work on his book, and practice his shogi skills against his computer program. He'll then take a walk around the city, catch one of his partners for lunch and--oh, right, he doesn't have that anymore. Well, he'll have lunch by himself, it's fine. If the press finds him alone they'll have fun with that one.]
[He searches the internet for somewhere new. It's a few stops away, but he doesn't mind the trip--it'll take his mind off of things. Once he's out on the street he vaguely knows where he is, he's walked down here before with Kotarou and had to tell him to slow down. This is going to be tough.]
[While he's admiring some of the historical buildings, someone passes by him that strikes him as a ghost, someone he's not supposed to see who usually slips by undetected. It was just a glimpse he caught, sure, but something sparked--literally. Without thinking he pivots and reaches out for an arm in the crowd, grabbing and turning the stranger around.]
[The timer on the light blue mark under his sleeve hits zero; for the first time in Akashi's life, lightning shoots from his eyes.]

The first two countdowns were very close together but the rest are spaced out a little more. Kuroko honestly wasn't sure if they any of them really would even be able to notice him. He's used to being overlooked, it doesn't bother him, but it makes him a little nervous. Well, it did make it nervous until he met Aomine.
Some days Kuroko stops by the basketball court outside of the school he works at to play before heading home. That day two months ago he found himself surprised by the appearance of his first soulmate. After feeling the lightning in his eyes he understood. There really is no way to hide from them.
Today, on his way to the train station, Kuroko finds himself spinning around suddenly. He feels his eyes spark and raises his eyebrows. After a quick glance at his arm to confirm, he speaks.]
Oh, you're number three.
no subject
Number three? You appear to have as many as I do.
[He releases the man's arm and pushes up the sleeve of his shirt to reveal his marks, all but one now with timers. He's relieved to finally see one of them blank and comforted that he's finally not the only one to have so many.]
But you're my first. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
Kuroko Tetsuya. It's nice to meet you, too.
[It takes him a moment to really process the fact that Akashi has just as many marks on his arms as he does and he takes a step closer to place his arm next to Akashi's. They match. Well, almost. The order and times are a little off but not that much. The colors seem to be exactly the same, which is way too big of a coincidence to ignore.]
They look almost the same.
[He remembers meeting Momoi within hours of meeting Aomine and how they had marks that matched, too. They only had the two each, though, but it was clear that Kuroko was each of their second person. Maybe this means he and Akashi are looking for the same people. Is it possible that the dark blue and pink marks on his arms are meant for them? Even if they already have all of their soulmates? Kuroko isn't sure but he knows he'll be introducing them soon anyway. He decided a long time ago that he wants all of his soulmates to know each other whether or not they are all meant to be together.]

How unexpected.
[He pulls his sleeve back down, drops his arm, and then smiles at Kuroko.]
Forgive me, I'm Akashi Seijurou. I was on my to get coffee, are you free to join me?
no subject
It takes him a moment but he breaks eye contact again to check the time on his watch. Seems like he has plenty of time for his new soulmate.]
Yes, I'd love to.
[He may have done this a couple times before but it still feels strange to interact with someone who he knows will be so important to him. Aomine and Momoi made it so easy with their genuine excitement and joy. Akashi, on the other hand, does seem to have a much quieter energy than his two other soulmates and he's handsome. It makes him a little intimidating. Not frightening, there's warmth in his voice and actions, but definitely intimidating. It's like walking into a fancy restaurant where he has a reservation, Kuroko knows he is supposed to be here but a part of him feels like someone is going to realize he doesn't belong.
Kuroko knows, logically, this will get easier and that someday he'll feel at home by Akashi's side so maybe he can work on closing that gap during this coffee date.]
Since we're...
[He hesitates, he's still a little shy about saying the words out loud and it shows on his face.]
..soulmates, you can call me Tetsuya, if you want.
no subject
And I, Seijurou.
[He turns slightly to head off, leaving enough room in his space for Kuroko to join him, silently inviting him next to him. Whenever he arrives he'll start leading them to the coffee shop.]
It will be my treat.
no subject
Thank you, Seijurou.
[Kuroko tests out the feeling of Akashi's first name in his mouth. It's a little weird to be this informal with, basically, a stranger. As they walk in the direction of the coffee shop, Kuroko finds that he has too many questions to keep to himself. He knows so much about Aomine and Momoi already. It's a moment before Kuroko speaks again.]
What do you do?
no subject
I play shogi professionally. I fancy myself an author as well.
[It's a bit of an understatement, but he doesn't know how to say "I never lose a game and am a big deal in the shogi realm", so he'll leave it at that. When he mentions being an author he pats his messenger bag with his laptop and notes in it, implying his intent to go write. He tilts his head towards Kuroko.]
And you, Tetsuya?
no subject
He holds up his own bag, which has a school name on it.]
I'm a Kindergarten teacher. Definitely not as impressive, I know.
[He gives Akashi a slightly self-depreciating smile. It's not that he thinks his job isn't important, just that the shock of Akashi's potential celebrity status has him off balance. He wonders what it is about him that makes him a good match for Akashi. What did the universe see in him that thought they would fit together?]
