[Two years have passed since Seirin won the Winter Cup and Kuroko and Momoi have fallen back into a comfortable post-break up relationship. Kuroko never really lost trust in Momoi after middle school but staying in a relationship with any one of his previous partners at that time would not have been possible. It would have hurt too much.

Now that their collective trauma has, more or less, been resolved he feels more comfortable exploring possible relationships with his exes. Momoi has been nothing but kind and warm to him and Kuroko has enjoyed spending time with her and watching her grow. She's even been less clingy these days, which is nice in some ways but does leave Kuroko wondering if she'd still be interested in a romantic relationship with him.

As the person who did the breaking up, Kuroko decides it's probably best for him to be the one to bring up their relationship. With that in mind, he texts Momoi to invite her to get ice cream and take a walk after school.]

[Momoi would be lying if she said she ever got over Kuroko. She's held onto her love for him since she was in middle school and that's how her heart has stayed. She's tried falling for other boys, maybe girls, but she's never been able to get past the way she feels for Kuroko. After high school she promised herself she would force herself to get over him.]

[Now she's a senior. It's almost time to start that process.]

[Over the years she's backed off, sure, but that's not the same as shutting her feelings down the way she has to. She can't be happy if she holds onto him like this; he'll never come back to her, or any of them, and she has to accept it. Everyone else has, or at least she thinks so.]

[It's almost cruel of the universe that Kuroko asks her to get ice cream, the inciting incident of her love for him. She of course says yes, she'll never turn him down, but it's rough. She meets him at the convenience store they all always went to as middle schoolers and, despite the melancholy sitting in her chest, perks up and beams at Kuroko when she spots him.]

Tetsu-kun! Long time no see!

[Face to face with Momoi, Kuroko realizes this might not be so easy. He hasn't had to be the one to pursue anyone in any of his previous relationships. He realizes suddenly the small butterflies in his stomach could be nervousness as much as they are attraction.

Kuroko holds up his hand to greet Momoi as she gets closer and smiles.]

Momoi-san, it's nice to see you.

[He holds the door open for her.]

Can I buy you an ice cream?

[Momoi slows down as she approaches. Something seems...off. She knows Kuroko very well by now. He's hard to read but she's only rivaled by Akashi and Kagami when it comes to Kuroko. Maybe if she was one of them, especially Akashi, she could pick up on what it is, but as it stands she can tell something is just off about him. However, she won't let it get to her; she shakes it off and smiles at him.]

Oh, you don't have to! Buuut I won't turn you down, either.

[She giggles and hops into the store. She remembers crossing the doorway into here nearly everyday back when they were dating. Sometimes she would drag him inside by his hand if Kise and Aomine didn't have a hold on him first.]

Do you think one of us will get lucky?

[Kuroko follows Momoi through the door and smiles at her.]

I hope so.

[He picks up a pair of ice creams and pays for them at the counter. How is he going to do this? It will have to be on their walk. Would it be better to start with his feelings or confirm hers? What will he do if she doesn't feel the same way anymore? Well, that answer is easy enough. They'll still be friends and he'll just have to move past the idea of dating her.

Kuroko hands Momoi her ice cream and starts to open his.]

Are you ready?

[Momoi feels spoiled. She's having a good time already and they've barely done anything. At Kuroko's suggestion she giggles.]

I can't eat mine that fast, Tetsu-kun! I'm not one of the others.

[She unwraps hers and takes a small bite. Yep, still tastes the same way she remembers. It's been a long time since she's had one of these. They always bring back memories that used to be bittersweet but have just become sweet to her over the years of healing and growing. She smiles fondly at it, her expression softening.]

Tetsu-kun...did I ever tell you...

[She sighs. How embarrassing, but maybe if she tells him she'll get over him faster. Maybe by making a joke of herself she can make her love for him something petty.]

One time when we were at Teiko you gave me your "Winner!" stick. That's when I fell in love with you back then. Silly, huh? We were...second years, I think? How childish, right?

[She glances at Kuroko, but can't look at him for long. She feels childish right now, a third year in high school.]

Only kids would do that.

[Would only kids hang on this long?]

[Kuroko feels his heart swell at Momoi's admission. He can't stop himself from smiling, it's just like her.]

I didn't know that. That's a sweet story, thank you for telling me.

[He looks down at his ice cream, still smiling. There's not really a better opportunity than this, is there? He lets out a soft breath, trying to relax his nerves.]

Momoi-san, I hope you don't think those feelings were childish.

[Kuroko looks over at Momoi, trying to catch her eye.]
