Welcome to the Harmony Project!
We're so thankful you've decided to join us.

As you know, the purpose of the project is to learn about human communication. The way we will be observing this is by giving you a communicator, which functions much like your smart phone we confiscated, and having you communicate with your housemates and members of other houses solely through our Harmony app. This means no talking.

Of course, we understand that it will be impossible to stay silent the whole time, and we will allow more talking in the beginning than we will as time goes on. If your performance is unsatisfactory, will we need to reevaluate your commitment to the project and you may face consequences, as we are unfortunately not in the position to send uncommitted volunteers home.

We've provided each volunteer their own supervisor who will be checking in with you every day to see how you're doing. They will give you assessments to complete each week evaluating your experiences, and we expect you to complete them on time. There are also supervisors for each house who are in charge of maintenance requests, food orders, and any other problems that arise.

The two big rules of the house are: 1) you are not allowed to leave the house, and 2) you are not allowed to be downstairs while a supervisor is in the house.

During this program, we will be providing a currency known as points! Points can be exchanged for goods. Points are earned through tasks as well as a weekly allowance. You may redeem points through the Point Tracker app, or using them directly in apps that have the in-app purchase feature.

All we ask of you during this project is to live as your normally do, but communicate through Harmony. Thank you for dedicating the next year to our mission.

HOUSING The Harmony Project provides its volunteers with free housing and basic food.

Houses consist of three floors: the ground floor is the living space, dining area, and kitchen. The second and third floors are for bedrooms, of which there are six. In some houses, there may be bunkbeds in one or more of the rooms. There is a vacuum on each floor, and a washer and dryer on the second and third floors. Houses and rooms are not segregated by gender, nor are they assigned to volunteers upon arrival. It is up to volunteers to decide who gets which bed as their first exercise in the project. It is undisclosed how many houses there are in the complex; you may never come into contact with one person from each house, even if you attempt to do so. Volunteers are incapable of going outside. There are windows, but the only possible view is of nature.

Bedrooms are spacious, though bunkbed rooms will feel a little more cramped despite being somewhat larger than a normal bedroom. Each bedroom has a desk, a desk lamp, a dresser, and a closet. Bunk bed rooms will have two desks with lamps, two dressers, but one large closet.

Kitchens are spacious with plenty of cabinets, countertop space, and most basic devices found in kitchens. These include a microwave, a toaster, a keurig (with many different roasts of coffee, hot chocolate, and apple cider), a water kettle, and a toaster oven. There are also the typical kitchen appliances such as a double-oven, a dishwasher, a trash compactor, and a large fridge-freezer combination. The sink also has a detachable faucet sprayer and garbage disposal. A broom and pad mop are also provided.

Food in the pantries, fridges and freezers is restocked with whatever the residents order every week through an order form left on the kitchen counter overnight every Friday night, which is then picked up over the weekend, and food is delivered by Monday morning. If residents want food, they will not try to find out who does the collecting and delivering; supervisors always know, and they will withhold food for the week. Residents are allowed to order food delivery through the Hospitality app; the food is delivered through a conveyor belt that leads from outside the house to the inside so that residents do not step outside.

COMMUNICATOR Your communicator is a touch-screen device that folds in half; you picked the size when you arrived: 3in, 5in, or 7in. It's waterproof up to 20ft for 30min, won't break if you drop it from 12ft without a case (which you can save up points for), 512GB of internal storage, the best camera technology specs, and has a battery life of 18hrs at full brightness playing movies. It's a beast of a machine, at all sizes and it better be for how much money is going into this project.

The device is capable of typical electronic device things, such as having a clock, calculator, calendar, internet browser, etc., the basics. There is an app store (a list of apps will be in another section), but it's proprietary and nothing is familiar on it. In fact, you've never heard of the internet browser and you might be able to access one or two of your favorite sites if you're lucky; everything else is blocked. Also, there is no phone or text feature; all communication is done through the Harmony app, which will be discussed at length in another section.

Communicators come with a charging port, an auxiliary port, removable storage (should you find yourself needing more), and, as mentioned above, have cases available once you've earned enough points to procure one. Cases come in basic patterns and solid colors, rugged types and jelly types, with straps/rings or without; luckily for you, they're customizable.

HARMONY APP Welcome to the Harmony app! This will be your main source of communication with your fellow residents of your house, your neighbors, and your supervisors! For the purposes of the project, we implore you to make use of Harmony as exclusively as possible, even when face-to-face communication is an option. Thank you for your cooperation.

Harmony has a few important communication features that are easy to understand, and fun to use. They are categorized as organizational and functional.

The two important organizational features are the ability to create group servers with anyone you'd like, and then the ability to create channels within those servers. Your Harmony app will already come with two permanent servers: one with your housemates, and one with your house supervisors. Another chat section is one for individual, private chatting. Here, you will find another permanent chat which will be the one with your individually assigned supervisor.

Text is the only function allowed on the app. Voice and Video are not options.

You may use photos taken with your camera or photos found through the Unity browser as your profile icon, server icons, or as "reaction images" in chatting spaces.

Thank you again for your participation. If you have any question regarding the Harmony app, please contact your supervisor.

POINTS Points are earned through an allowance every week, as a rewards for checking in with your supervisor regularly and on time, completing your assessments on time, performing extra chores, and making a clear effort to participate in the program.

The following are examples of what you may spend your points on:

Communicator cases
Fashionable clothing
Delicious snacks
Fun craft supplies
Physical versions of your favorite Lit Bit books
Amity handheld video game console, pre-loaded with 50 games
Amity video game expansion pack, loaded with 50 more games
Starlight Rock and Jupiter Rising in-game purchases
...and more!

Points are not very hard to come by as long as you do your part in the project.

CONSEQUENCES What are these "consequences"?

That's just the thing. You don't know, and the person who faces them doesn't remember, either. They come back from being whisked away in the night and disappearing for the next week. The come back skinnier than before, with bags under their eyes, seeming dazed and...drugged, almost. What happened to them?

Well, at least they got three months' allowance out of it. But now they're scared to make a peep. They may not have any recollection of what happened, but they implore you, frantically in bold and italics, that the points aren't worth how sick and deathly they feel.
