[Akashi hasn't told anyone about his resurgence crush on Kuroko. Reo figured it out, but he hasn't actually confronted it out loud to anyone. He considered not doing anything about it, what would the point be, but with college on the horizon he feels that this summer might be the final time he can say anything.]

[He's fairly adept at sneaking away from others, and has quietly taken Kuroko aside at the summer festival they're attending with their friends. They're in another aisle of stands and lights and sounds, and Akashi releases the small of Kuroko's back he was guiding him by.]

Kuroko, there is something I'd like to confess to you.

[mybasketball]

[Summer is coming to an end sooner rather than later and all Kuroko can think is about how he and all of his friends will soon go their separate ways. It gives a bittersweet tone to the festivities tonight. He's grateful that he, for the most part, is still able to slip into the back of the group. Akashi always catches him, though. He can never quite avoid his notice. This time it's to be directed away from their friends and to another aisle. Kuroko lets himself be guided.]

What is it?

[Akashi tucks his hands into the sleeves of his yukata--he couldn't be quite talked into wearing casual wear--and glances at a stall as they pass by. Here we go. He turns his head towards Kuroko as they walk, eyes darting from his friend to the path before them to make sure they don't collide with anyone.]

I'm concerned if this is inappropriate to say, considering our history together. You've clearly moved past it all, and I believe the others have done the same. It brings me joy and pride that we can all be together as we are now. That bond is dear to me.

[He sighs.] However, I'm afraid that's no longer what I want, no matter how hard I try to escape myself.

[He stops walking, and moves in front of Kuroko to stop him.]

Kuroko. The feelings I once had for you have returned, but I believe now I have the maturity to appreciate their complexity. It's become clear to me that my old infatuation with you has grown deeper than that. I'm in love with you, Kuroko, and I apologize for perhaps burdening you in this way.

[He's all cool but soft as hell on the surface, but inside those sleeves he's holding pretty tightly onto his arms.]

Your friendship is what I truly value most. I hope my selfishness hasn't jeopardized that.

[Kuroko's eyes follow Akashi's movements next to him, then in front of him, and he takes in the words that are being said to him. His expression softens. It's been a long time since Akashi has spoken to him this way. It's...nice.]

Not at all, I...feel the same.

[Akashi probably hasn't seen Kuroko's expression so vulnerable in quite some time.]

I didn't think you would ever have those feelings for me again.

[Akashi is so relieved. He lets out a sigh and relaxes his hands in his sleeves. His shoulders even drop a little. He nods and smiles softly at Kuroko.]

To be honest with you, I didn't ever expect to, but when it comes to you I suppose I should expect surprises.

[He's still reeling a bit from the reciprocation.]

It...means a lot to me to hear you feel the same. This isn't a basketball game, so I can't exactly predict what you'll say next. [He's making a little joke, haha]
