Date: 2021-03-20 10:21 pm (UTC)--general setting is an underground community of people with various supernatural ailments, some of them are known to society at large (generally the bigger pop culture ones, vampires, werewolves, zombies, things like that) but a lot are "I think I heard about that once?" or "that's not a real one is it???"
--in america, vampires are the most populous supernatural folks and sorta run the communities, it isn't uncommon to have people with absolutely no need for it trading in human blood because it's so valuable. that old thing about cigarettes in prison, but it's blood bags in the supernatural community
--curses are A Thing that varies a lot, people with more serious ones generally rely pretty hard on the larger supernatural community because people that aren't baseline human can't be cursed. vampires can't even catch most human illnesses, let alone pick up their curses! you can get cursed multiple times, though, and lycanthropy is a curse so be careful with werewolves.
--eddie himself lives with his cousin valentina who is big in the blood trade in their city, along with her girlfriend rahela, who is a waitress at a supernatural bar. his grandmother runs a little school out of her living room for supernatural/cursed kids who can't go to school so he sorta grew up knowing everybody. feel free to throw that at any of your characters, the simion family are big names in the local scene
--you can pretty much take any supernatural anything and stick it in here without going against the worldbuilding. its really only vampires and werewolves with any kind of defined lore.

Date: 2021-03-23 08:40 pm (UTC)So the factions are actually all pretty secret from regular society. Most people don't know about the conflicts between all these magic people. Originally there was only ever 3 factions at odds with each other, been around since the very beginning of magical beings existing. Those three factions were WIZ-DOM - the faction of more Western styles of magic, Arayashiki - eastern magicians, and Darklore - magical beings thought to be mythical to most humans who wouldn't know otherwise. Come the 21st century, the E.G.O came to be a faction in it's own right. They were at first, but slowly some men who were related to EGOs started to get their own psionic abilities, and now there are quite a few, though it is still female dominated. A new group of people soon started to see and notice these factions and realized that they could empower and control anyone from these factions, they're called Mindbreakers. They're not really a faction in their own right as they're not loyal to each other or to any one group, they are typically lone wolves and if they get involved, it's usually for their own personal reasons.
During all this chaos, a group of aliens descended on to Earth, the other factions dubbed them Erasers because of how much raw power they held. They're considered the most powerful of the factions, so much so, that the other factions decided to work together on a temporary truce to get rid of these alien invaders. Realizing they were people in their own right, another group appeared to unify all factions: the Polestar Empire. They come from an alternate Earth where peace was achieved. Of course, there will always be conflict, but at least there's not more all out war.
So because the Polestar Empire happened just as the card game started to die, I'm gonna say that they're off the table for our AU purposes (Also because JO takes place during the Erasers conflict). There's also not a whole lot known about them other than their cards pulled a Fate// series situation where they are like famous knights and figures that seem to fall into other categories just fine.
•Arayashiki: Most of them are what we know as omnyouji, people who use Tao magic. They're the spiritual eastern folks who we mostly think of when we think of Japanese, Chinese, and Indian spiritualism in particular. (Other parts of Asia are included here too but those are the most common, indigenous folks from these areas like the Ainu are here too). Asian spiritual being are also here, so like ayakahsis are under this faction along with samurai, ninjas, and martial artists who use eastern styles.
•WIZ-DOM: This is the more western style of magics that exist. Pagan magic, druids, wizards, sorcerers, ect. (Magical indigenous folks from western places would technically be considered Arayashiki, but they don't actually involve themselves in any of these conflicts and doing align themselves with groups, for the most part.) A lot of them are clerics who align themselves with religions, not always for genuine reasons. They are mostly isolated and tend to be pretty secretive about their abilities. Where Arayashikis are a little more open about it and turn these things into professions (like I mentioned, samurai, ninja, and even mikos are there too), WIZ-DOMs are more low key and stay on the down low.
•Darklore: They might be the oldest faction as there are hints that they predate the human race, but there's not evidence to say for sure. These guys are what most of society calls "mythical beings". They're your vampires, demons, lycanthropes, fae, elves, the whole shebang. (Dragons aren't included here bc they're supposed to be part of the Polare Empire, but I'm putting them here bc fuck you). Their goal is just to take back the world they claim was theirs from the beginning. More humanoid Darklore can hide with humans and pass as normal, but most of them hide as they are considered "monsters".
•E.G.O: These are your every day physhics. Because they're new, they also tend to be the youngest kids and young adults. They're just normal people and are very social and chill unlike the seriousness of the first three factions. They have a natural charisma and tend to do well as doctors, celebrities, and psychics. (Very a la Matilda kind of psionics). Whatever career they go in, people praise them for "being the best in their field". It's also common for cyborgs and androids who are more human-looking that were taken from the Erasers to go into this faction.
It was originally names "Evolutionary Girls Organization" but with more boys joining the ranks it was renamed to "Evolutionary Generation Organization". They consider themselves the new waves of magical humans.
•Erasers: Aliens. Just aliens. These guys are what most people called angels for the most part. There's also cyborgs and androids here, but mostly these are angelic looking beings. There are of course, other kinds of erasers, though. Any aliens go here. It's implied that they have been watching the on-going conflict and were in particular interested in Mindbreakers since they have the unique ability to affect the other factions. They really only started engaging when the EGO involved themselves, but no one really knows why they're here.
•Mindbreakers: There are very few of these around and no one really knows who will end up being one as they aren't a faction, they're just individuals who don't even know they're Mindbreakers themselves. They typically form small groups that include members of other factions for their own personal reasons. This typically puts Mindbreakers in situations where they fight each other. No one's really sure how Mindbreakers are able to empower and control the other factions, but there's strong evidence that all that's really needed is strong emotions. Whether that's towards the individuals, or for their goal, it doesn't matter. They basically just need to feel enough. In JO, Mana usually accidentally Mindbreaks people because she has deep friendship feels. The other Mindbreaker in the series does it because she has lofty goals that she feels she needs to achieve. Mana is only ever seen controlling one of them once when she was younger, in which she ordered him and he obediently did as he was told. Otherwise, it seems she just naturally awakened empowerment within them. The other Mindbreaker is regularly seen ordering her folks around. If a Mindbreaker is seen favoring a certian faction, that's considered an advantage, since the ability to enhance powers is a threat to the other factions. Erasers were surprised to find that even they can be Mindbroken.

Date: 2021-04-01 01:28 am (UTC)- Humans, Elves, Dwarves, and Qunari live here (there is too much lore about each race to summarize)
- There's darkspawn, Grey Wardens exist to fight them, it's a whole thing, the first game is about this
- Mages are a thing, if they're Dalish Elves they become leaders of their clans and if they're anything else they're varying levels of treated like shit and oppressed because Magic Scary
- Templars exist to be cops specifically for Mages mostly but also in general, kids often join when they're very young so it's easy to brainwash them and make them addicted to literal drugs, there are clearly no problems with this system
- Fereldans love dogs, Orlesians love being fancy and vaguely French (+they wear masks), Tevinter people love being mages and caste systems (+slavery), Par Vollen and Seheron love communism (+the version of communism republicans think exists that is evil)
- The main religion is basically Christianity but if Jesus was a lady who got burned to death instead of put on a cross so there's a lady pope
- Tevinter is like no lady pope is stupid so they have their own dude pope, the popes are mad at each other
- Elves, Dwarves, and Qunari all have their own religions but human society is like "lol what? no." and so people who live around humans often follow Christianity TWO: Lady Jesus Rises
- Fighting styles fall into warrior (two handed or one handed), rogue (knife or bow), or mage archetypes
That's the big stuff without getting into a million details? If you want more details, ask your local Abby's.
