Everyone loves sweet gestures—little things that remind someone that you love them, that you think of them, that you care for their general, and other things. A gesture could be made towards a friend, a family member, or some other loved one. Maybe towards a total stranger you think deserves something to make them smile.

1. LOVE NOTES ♥ Everyone loves love notes, and they don’t even have to be romantic. It could be simple as ‘have a good day at work’ or even something funny to brighten someone’s day.

2. BREAKFAST IN BED ♥ Especially on a Sunday morning or after a long, late shift at work, breakfast in bed with their favorite foods is surely the way to start the day off right.

3. PHONE CALL ♥ Who doesn’t like a phone call from someone they love, for no reason? A nice conversation can be all someone needs to have a better day or make a good day be a great one.

4. SWEET TREAT ♥ Late at night when you’re both tired from work or just general day-to-day things, something sweet from the local bakery can be just the thing you need.

7. SMALL GIFT ♥ It could be a piece of jewelry that caught your eye and reminded you of them, a stuffed animal you won at the carnival… just something small and sweet that you are sure they are going to love no matter how cheap or expensive it is.

8. FLOWERS ♥ From a florist or from a random patch of green, the surprise of flowers for someone you know and/or love is always welcomed! Look into their meanings to make the bouquet, big or small, become extra special.

9. RENT A MOVIE ♥ Sure, you might not like the genre of the movie, but if the other person does, then that is all that matters.

10. SLOW DANCE ♥ Middle of the living room, randomly while on a date, or maybe that is the whole purpose of the date. Slow dances are so underrated.

11. SURPRISE GETAWAY ♥ Yes, that is just what you guys need: a vacation from things, even if it’s just for a day or two and is not half way across the world. From a family vacation to a romantic spur of the moment, everyone loves going to a new place.

12. SURPRISE KISS ♥ Who doesn’t like a surprise kiss? A soft one on the cheek, a kiss being the thing to wake you up in the morning, or a big one right when you walk through the door.

13. HOLD HANDS ♥ There is nothing like holding hands. It’s a simple and intimate gesture, and if you do it the right way, it could have a whole different meaning.

14. COOK DINNER ♥ Come on, give it a go. Who cares if you’re not the best cook in the world or possibly the worst? It’s the thought that counts.

[It's been a little under 6 months since Shinji moved in with Aqua, and the walking on eggshells period appears to finally be ending. He's stopped asking for permission to use the TV and has even had a friend over once! Gradual progress.]

[Still, this is a new one. It's a Sunday, and Shinji woke up at dawn needing to use the bathroom. After that, nothing he'd tried had gotten him back to sleep, so he eventually gave up and headed into the kitchen. Aqua isn't awake yet to make breakfast, and... well, there's no reason he can't do it for her, right? She's always cooking for him and never makes a big deal out of it...]

[So, technically not breakfast in bed, but Aqua is going to wake up to Shinji about 90% of the way through making omelettes and toast for everyone in the house. Your call on how many people that is, how many children does Aqua have in her care today?]

[Even though Aqua does have a husband, he's always away on his business trips so he's not really around. Her two oldest kids are in college, so that leaves her two youngest in the house.]

[Aqua gets up at her usual Sunday time, does all her morning stuff, and goes to get Sora and Roxas up. She leaves Shinji's room alone--teens need all the sleep they can get after all--and gets her little kindergarteners teeth and hair brushed (a pointless effort for both of them, really). She doesn't bother with making them change out of their pjs, it's a Sunday! She sends them on their way while she makes her way to the kitchen to start breakfast except, to her surprise, Shinji's there!]

[She looks around at the 90% finished meal and is just. Touched and in shock.]

Shinji...did you do all this?

[There's this like...delighted wonder in her voice, like she's woken up on Christmas morning to a mountain of presents.]

[Sora and Roxas come barreling in and take their usual seats, none the wiser. Sora has been dragging around his Pooh Bear everywhere he goes and Roxas has a cheetah he places carefully on his lap to make it look like it's also sitting at the table. They wish Shinji a good morning in unison, though Sora yells it.]

[Shinji is not used to this level of obvious, earnest gratitude. This was just what he did in Misato's household, and she'd playfully tease him and compliment his cooking, but she never looked at him like that, like he's done something unexpected and wonderful.]

Oh, um! Yes! Good morning!

[The boy is immediately so flustered!!]

I'll clean up afterwards, you don't have to worry!

[He scrambles to get toast out to the boys, because little kids can be loud and baffling but their emotions are also extremely simple and he doesn't have to second guess them. His ears are still burning but there is a stuffed animal being seated at the table, he can focus on that.]

[He's seen Aqua put the same jam on Sora's toast every morning for months, but Roxas is moodier, so he decides to ask for that one.]

Roxas and, um, Spotty, do you want strawberry or just butter?

[Oh my god abort mission this is embarrassing too did he just address a stuffed animal.]

[She feels like she barely has time to reassure him he doesn't need to worry about cleaning, she'll help, before he's rushing to the kiddos. She notices how red he is and wow what a cute kid, he's so sweeet.]

[Aqua folds her arms, one on top of the other in that way she does when she's watching something, this time with a warm, loving expression. He's so good with her youngest sons, it just makes her heart fill with joy.]

[Roxas is indeed a moody baby and he considers Shinji's offer. He looks over at Sora who has Pooh strangled in one arm and his toast clumsily in his other hand. Roxas makes Spotty's arms move as he talks.]

...Butter.

[Aqua smiles. It seems today is not a twin day for Roxas.]

What do we say, Roxas?

...Please.

[Aqua walks on over and plants a big ol' kiss on Roxas' head, then Sora's then gives a gentle pat on their stuffed animals' heads. Then she steps back and lets Shinji do his thing while she goes to make her coffee, which I'm assuming Shinji didn't make bc that's a personal preference thing.]

[Shinji gets a little wistful watching the ease with which the twins accept affection, and then silently scolds himself for feeling envious of young children. He spreads butter on Roxas' toast and hands it to him directly, rather than placing it on his plate.]

[There will be no kisses from Shinji, but he does smile at his... sorta-brothers? It's much harder to put a label on it when they're little than it was with Asuka, who was definitely a roommate and not a sister.]

[Once the toast has been successfully distributed, he follows Aqua back to the kitchen, giving her a much more timid smile than he'd given the boys.]

Sorry, I forgot to start coffee... Misato always drank b--

[He cuts him off abruptly, remembering the look on his social worker's face when she saw the apartment after Kaji died and Misato stopped making the kids go to school. The beer with breakfast was one of those things that would make Aqua worry, he thinks.]

Um! The omelettes are almost done, so you can sit down if you want!

[Sora and Roxas are digging into their toast, with Roxas sometimes offering bites to Spotty. Sora's more messy, especially with the jam, but Aqua knows better than to try to clean him up until after he's done. Roxas is more careful, he's not messy unless he has ice cream and then...oh boy.]

[As Aqua brings down her Minnie Mouse mug from its spot next to her husband's Mickey Mouse mug--a little pang at her heart to go along with it, she misses him--she easily decides to not elaborate on what Shinji cut himself off about. His social worker told her about Misato, maybe too much. She has an idea of what she drank.]

[She puts in her sugar, sets aside her little half & half cups that Terra got a surplus of from the wholesale store, and pops in a coffee pod into the keurig with the mug placed under it. She smiles at Shinji after inputting her settings and making the little machine go. They can run the drip some other time; they have one of those keurigs that takes no time at all.]

In a moment, it's alright. You've done so much, Shinji, I'm very impressed and grateful.

[Aqua sighs, watching her little babies.]

...I wish we knew Ven and Vanitas at their age. I'm sure they were a riot. We adopted them when they were your age.

[She folds her arms again, tilts her head as the keurig whirs behind her.]

These two were just barely toddlers. How the time flies...

[Shinji feels his face go hot at the praise, and he ducks his head a little to hide it. It's all the more obvious with the movement accompanying it, but he's not really thinking of that.]

I, um, I can cook more often, if it would make things easier for you! I like to cook, so it wouldn't be a hassle or anything.

[Please give him more praise. He will work very hard for it, he promises.]

I've never really been around little kids all that much before. It's kinda nice.

[He's still quietly delighted by how much Sora loves him. He's not used to being looked up to.]

They're wonderful little handfuls.

[She "oh"s as the machine finishes her coffee and she turns back to put all her fixings in it. She considers something for a minute, mulling over the thought. She taps her stirring spoon on the edge of her mug, and hums.]

Do you want to cook breakfast on the weekend like today?

[It...would give her a little extra time in the morning to just like...chill out and hanging out with the kiddos instead of bustling around. She takes a sip from her Minnie Mouse mug and sighs with a smile.]

You know...maybe we could make dinner together sometime when Terra comes home from his trip. Wouldn't that be fun?

[Unfortunately for this bonding activity, the twins do need to be watched and that can't happen if they're both in the kitchen.]

[Shinji perks up when Aqua takes him up on his offer. Like, extremely visible shift in body language. That's a real smile! The boy loves to be useful.]

Sure! I'd be happy to!

[But making dinner together as a family? That sends him for a loop. He hasn't spent as much time with Terra as he has Aqua, or with adult men in general.]

He'd... do that? Cook with us?

[That smile brings her so much happiness, she can't help but beam back at him.]

Then it's settled.

[Her smile softens very lovingly and she traces the bow on her Minnie Mouse mug.]

He can crack an egg or two. But more importantly he can watch the twins. So it would be you and me.

[She hums a bit.]

Hm...you know, I'm sure he wouldn't mind cooking with you if you don't mind. Like I said, he's good at cracking eggs.
