[Nothing on the menu is particularly appealing, or at least not these versions of the things he's used to having. He knows they won't be up to snuff. But there's a time and place for everything and right now Denny's is what he's got.]

[He slides the menu back and forth on the table as they wait for a server to come to their table.]

[She lets out a puff of air and looks over the menu. Well, at least there are some good options for the price..]

[Kyouya glances at the menu, finds what he'll tolerate pretty quickly that he suspects is within Haruhi's price range, and sets the menu down. He observes her for a moment. Well...he did see another option.]

They have a 2 for $15 deal if that's something you would be interested in. The choices are limited but I can't imagine everything here is that drastically different.

[He'd have to settle for something he didn't really want but he imagines it's something Haruhi will appreciate. Additionally then she probably won't mind if he orders the drip coffee that's already cheap.]

Ah, yes I think that would work, if you're interested.

[Is he actually being thoughtful? Well in any case, Haruhi is looking at the limited options now. Seems like there are some good choices. At least she can get pancakes.]

[He finds what he'll settle on and closes his menu. He needs that cheap coffee asap.]

[It's not too much longer until the coffee arrives, like Kyouya's both grateful for its speediness but distrustful of its quality because of that. But, well, he's not in a spot to be picky.]

[He takes a sip, hates it, but keeps going.]

I'm sure the coffee can't be much different than what we serve at the club.

[Kyouya almost grimaces. Almost. The ticks of it flash on his face.]

No. That would be unbearable.

[He hums and is already refilling his mug. It wasn't fully empty before he just hates to see it not full.]

In quality, probably not. But you can't burn instant coffee or leave it sitting on a heating pad for who knows how long.

[He takes a drink rather than a sip, the heat already dying out.]

There's merit in doing it this way, though. You satisfy a customer's desire for fast service by keeping full pots at the ready, and most people aren't concerned with the quality from a place like this. With the price tag of $2 for unlimited pots how could you be?

[Haruhi almost laughs at his comment about Tamaki. She agrees but isn't going to say so out loud. She thinks about his comments.]

Hm...that's probably true. Most people drink coffee in a more utilitarian way than you do Senpai.

[Kyouya nods, considers refilling his mug again but he'll let it sit for a moment. He leans back in his seat, arms crossed.]

It makes sense. Many people are too busy to care about quality over usefulness, which is reasonable. Coffee shops specializing in quality coffee wouldn't do well otherwise.

[Their food arrives and Kyouya regards it with disinterest.]

The same can obviously be said for food.

[Haruhi regards Kyouya's less than enthusiastic expression with a frown.]

[His displeasure sure isn't going to make her keep from eating though so she starts to dig in.]

I know my funds are limited but it's not like you to do something just for my benefit.

[She's not really sure why Kyouya didn't pick one of the more expensive options or something with fresher ingredients, like something with fruit. He did say he didn't think anything would be that different but she's pretty sure there were other options that might have been marginally more appealing.

Haruhi is really just hoping that he won't find some way to hold this situation against her. Well, nothing she can do about it now.]

[Kyouya may have looked at his food distastefully but he eats it normally, like nothing's wrong with it or it tastes that bad or anything. It's just eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. It's bland but it's food, it serves it's purpose.]

[He looks at Haruhi, observing her for a moment, before going back to chomping down on some bacon. Interesting.]

If you're wondering why I didn't go for something more expensive, don't. Spending more here wouldn't improve the quality and depleting your funds over that would be a waste.

[Well, there's food, and it's food that she does enjoy to some degree, so she'll focus on that. It's not the fancy stuff she usually gets when she hangs out with the hosts but it is still good. Time to eat.]
