Hello there! Welcome to the world of Pokémon! First, what is your name?

Welcome to Johto! Here are the rules: ☙ Post your characters ☙ Pick & choose or RNG your role/scenario/relationship! It's 1-6 three times! ☙ Pokémon are limited to Gens I-IV, #1-493 (List of Pokémon in Gen IV, and by Type) ☙ Here are stills of the walking sprites, L and R views are on the side, and animated versions can be found in the image galleries on Bulbapedia entries (F for female, S for shiny) ☙ Trainer card maker, just for funsies ☙ Bulbapedia is a good resource for more information!

Who Are You?

☆ 1. Trainer: Trainers! This is pretty straight-forward, Trainers raise Pokémon, battle Pokémon, and have a duty to keep their Pokémon safe and healthy. They can specialize in capturing, so they may know a lot more about things like which Apricots make which PokéBalls than you do. They arguably get the most attention from the Pokémon world, and for good reason! How flashy are Pokémon battles, have you seen one? So cool! Trainers often are travelers, going all around the region and beyond capturing and training their Pokémon, tackling other trainers and Gym Leaders, and some have the rumored PokéDex, a rare item given to only a few special Trainers. Are you one of those lucky few? ☆ 2. Coordinator: Ever since Contests were brought over from Hoenn, Coordinators started popping up everywhere. Contests are the time to shine for your Pokémon in the five categories of Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness! You can feed them PokéBlocks made from Berries to help raise their condition. Accessories and outfits haven't caught on in Johto yet, but maybe someday they will! For now, the Goldenrod Contest Hall, once two empty buildings now converted into one, is the place to be for any aspiring Coordinator going for that Normal, Super, Hyper, or coveted Master Ribbon. Don't forget, though, you're fully capable of battling, too, if that floats your boat. ☆ 3. Breeder: A Breeder's primary concern is the wellbeing of Pokémon. They study nutrition, behavior, and, of course, breeding habits. They're experts (or experts to-be) at breeding Egg Moves and Natures, and in some cases are working to preserve a species of Pokémon that may be facing population troubles. A secret group of Breeders have the task of breeding Starter Pokémon in a secret place, ooooo. Breeders will hatch, care for, and raise Pokémon as their life's passion. Some do battling and Contests on the side, too! You can find Breeders at the Goldenrod Daycare Center helping out the old couple who owns it, or just anywhere in Johto. ☆ 4. Ranger: Rangers are employees of the Ranger Union, located in Blackthorn City, and are dedicated to protecting the lives of Pokémon and humans. They befriend Pokémon, either wild or captured, to aid them on their Ranger Missions. You'll meet with other Rangers at Ranger Bases, which is where your Missions will mostly come from. Bases are located in Violet City and Ecruteak City. There's also Ranger School, located in Goldenrod City, which you'll have to go through before become a Ranger. Thank you for your help! ☆ 5. Leader: If anyone is more hyped than the Trainer, it's the Gym Leader. Gym Leaders are awesome, they're strong and tough, they have the best Pokémon around! Weird that they get tougher as you go along the map, or less tough if you go backwards, but that's not the point. Each Leader specializes in one type of Pokémon, but sometimes there's a curveball in there somewhere. Hm? There are already 8 Gym Leaders in Johto? Well they need a break sometimes, and new generations happen, don't they? Maybe you're a substitute, or you've taken up the mantle. Have you kept the traditional typing or did you change it up? ☆ 6. Rocket: Something's happened here and a Rocket's at the root. Haven't you been forced into the shadows again and again enough? Team Rocket has had it rough the past decade, being defeated by Red and then again by the GSC trio. But it seems like parts of them struggle on, determined to do crime, no matter how petty. It's not usually the Ranger's duty to clean up after Rocket's, but maybe some trouble just crosses over. Are you stealing Pokémon again? Items? Cheating at the Game Corner? Or just causing a general ruckus? Whatever it is, you're up to no good or...are you?

What Will You Do?

☆ 1. Explore: Forests! Caves! Ruins! There's so much to explore! There's also just the regular paths between cities and towns, nothing wrong with exploring those. You can cut down small trees, move and crush rocks, headbutt and shake trees, surf the waves, and ride your bike to get into every nook and cranny your heart desires! The world is an open place and you're welcome to explore the great outdoors. Oh, there's also the cities and towns themselves! There's tons of history within them, feel free to talk to the locals about it and ask about where the best place to eat is. Maybe there's something fun to do in each town, Goldenrod is definitely full, all you gotta do is look around. ☆ 2. Capture: Whether you gotta catch 'em all or this is part of a conservation effort or something else, it's time to capture some Pokémon! Think carefully about where you are, what level your Pokémon is versus what you think (or know) the other Pokémon is, and you'll know which type of PokéBall to use! You have your many options made from Apricots by Kurt in Azalea Town, or your tried and true store-bought ones. Maybe you even have a legendary Master Ball, look at you! No matter how you're capturing, it's time to get ready for a battle! But, hey, maybe you're actually befriending a Pokémon and not even battling it. ☆ 3. Evolve: Your Pokémon is evolving! Pokémon evolve in so many ways: leveling up, trading, evolution stones, convoluted "have to level up near a specific rock", level up during a certain time of day, with enough friendship, with enough affection--it's a lot! How is your Pokémon evolving? Is it exciting? Are you going to stop it? Was this expected or did it catch you completely off guard? Alternatively, you could have finally found that Everstone you've been looking for to give your Pokémon to hold to keep it from evolving for as long as it's carrying it. Up to you: will you take your Pokémon's evolution into your own hands or let nature take its course? ☆ 4. Compete: Comp--etition! Comp-comp-etition! There are so many ways to compete! There are...two! But, honestly, there are probably smaller types of competitions that smaller groups have made up out there. One of the big two is the Gym Leader Challenge; while you don't directly compete with other trainers, you kind of do. There's a tension between trainers when they're showing off their badges to each other, and you can't even have above a certain level of Pokémon without certain badges, or use certain HMs. At then end of your journey you'll be hitting up the Pokémon League, but that's top tier stuff. The other competition is the most showy one--Contests! Get ready to train your Pokémon in the right moves and feed them PokéBlocks to up their Coolness, Beauty, Cuteness, Cleverness, and Toughness stats. You're aiming for those Normal, Super, Hyper and Master Ribbons, get to it! ☆ 5. Collect: There's plenty of things to collect! Berries and Apricots can be collected and used to make other things, so be sure to keep an eye out for those as you're wandering around the route paths. You can collect PokéBalls if you want, they're pretty cool and it only takes one Apricot to make one Ball. Plus, there are some Balls that are super hard to find, so good luck getting those Premier Balls! There's of course collecting Pokémon to complete your PokéDex, good luck with that, too. And, finally, new to Johto: trading cards! The Pokémon Trading Card Game has finally come over from Kanto and has landed in Johto, what good news! Collect booster packs from any PokéMart, decks and individuals from one of the Goldenrod Department Store's floors, and battle or trade with your friends! ☆ 6. Call: The old Pokégears looked like flip phones, but now they look more like smart phones. They still can't do much, though; they can call, use a detailed map (very detailed, down to the Goldenrod Department Store floors), catch the radio, tell the time...pretty basic stuff! However its new apps include pick-up order apps, so you can place your PokéMart orders for pick-up before you get there! But that's not the point of this block, I just wanted to include that. The point here is calling! Call your friends! You have all this memory space for phone numbers, why not save as many as you can? Save every PokéCenter just in case you need help, maybe every other trainer you meet who might want a rematch later in your journey or who has a knack for finding extra Water Stones and wants to give them away. And don't forget to call whoever you left behind in your hometown--they probably miss you.

How Do You Know Each Other?

☆ 1. Hometown: You two go way back! Or maybe not that far back, but you're from the same hometown! Did one of you leave and come back? Or did both of you leave and run into each other out there? There's probably a lot to catch up on, whatever your situation is! ☆ 2. Traveling: Meeting new friends on the road is always fun, and not just Pokémon ones! You've decided to travel together, how's that going for you? Are you sharing a tent along the way or keeping to yourselves? Are you both trainers or do you both have different courses in life? Do your Pokémon get along? ☆ 3. Strangers: You've never met this person before in your life! What are they doing here? Where are you? What's going on? ☆ 4. Rivals: Competing against others is fun and all, but what about against just one specific person? Yeah, that's right, your rival. It can be a friendly rivalry, a bitter rivalry, a hateful rivalry, or something between the lines. You two have it out for each other in the best or worst way possible, have fun! ☆ 5. Teammates: Team Rocket is the obvious team here, but Rangers can work in teams sometimes, too! But mostly it's Rockets. There aren't many of you left, so you have to stick together! Hopefully. Ideally. ☆ 6. Co-Workers: Rangers, Breeders, PokéMart and Game Corner employees--there are tons of jobs out there in Johto and everyone has a co-worker! Are missions coming in faster than you can keep up with? Are trainers making ridiculous Egg Move demands of you? Are customers just...like that? Really though, even in Pokémon world customers are just gonna be Like That, unfortunately for the regular employees of Johto, except now they have creatures going along with it.

Shinji

A trainer by process of elimination, Shinji would be happiest staying home and occasionally going camping with Kensuke. Unfortunately, one of daddy dearest's most questionably obtained pokemon refuses to listen to anyone but Shinji. His problem now!

Mushi ♂ Shinji's Kricketot is the only pokemon that he really considers his own, and naturally, he absolutely isn't a combat pokemon. Just a little buggy friend. He only weighs 5 pounds and Shinji regularly carries him around as a security blanket so that he doesn't get bothered by larger pokemon.
Unit 01 × I'm sorry, is that a Regigigas? Shinji, why do you have that? Why did Gendo have that? Why has nobody intervened in this situation? Misato, letting them train in your backyard is not intervening in the situation--

Unit 13 × Shinji, give that Deoxys back to Kaworu immediately. Why did he give you that. Where did he go. What do you mean you can't find him. This doesn't seem ideal.

Eddie

Eddie comes in three flavors: discount trainer, underdog coordinator, and off-brand rocket. Regardless of where he's ended up, the history is the same-- his family is too broke to move out of an incredibly haunted house they've been living in for four generations. For the coordinator and trainer options, feel free to choose between adult and teen Eddie, although it's definitely just a hobby if he's an adult.

Nico Jr. ♂ Eddie's Rattata is his childhood pet and vaguely his starter pokemon, named after himself before he started going by a nickname. He found him in the basement screeching at a Haunter when he was 7 and decided this was his new best friend. He's fat and lazy and old but very cuddly, so he's usually asleep in Eddie's pocket rather than in a pokeball.

Raggedy Ann aka "Rags" ♀ Eddie's Banette used to be an old doll in the house that wasn't played with anymore, the cousin she belonged to moved out before Eddie was born. She's a vengeful spirit but mostly loves dress-up and can be placated with pretty outfits and sparkly things. She also used to belong to his mother, so he's kinda got a soft spot for her.

Ann

Ann is absolutely both a trainer and a coordinator. She will beat your ass and she will beat it with STYLE.

Minty ♀ Ann's tiny adorable Chikorita starter evolved and now her only goal in life is to whip everyone within line of sight. I see nothing wrong with this.

Carmen ♀ Please do not touch the Lopunny, folks. She looks very soft but just don't do it. She will kick the shit out of you.

Strawberry ♂ Commonly referred to as 'the only man Ann will ever love', her Flareon is a Good Boy, okay? Yes, he ate one of Ryuji's shoes, but he probably deserved that.

[It's a beautiful day in Johto, and a perfect day to explore and maybe train? These two 10-year-olds are not that far into Route 29 yet but it already feels like being a world away from home. There are no parents here! Also no boys, which is great because boys are gross.

Shiho is walking next to her poliwag, which is about half her height and definitely looks like it's struggling to keep up, and holding on to the straps on her bright blue and red backpack. She's wearing a graphic t-shirt (with a picture of a cartoon growlithe on it) and shorts combo with her hair up in a simple ponytail. Shiho looks over at Ann with a delighted smile on her face.]

I still can't believe we get to do this all by ourselves.

[Ann was absolutely one of those kids who didn't sleep the night before starting her pokemon journey. She'll probably crash sometime in the afternoon, but for now she's got her Buneary in her arms and her best friend by her side, which is perfect and exactly what she's been daydreaming about since she was little.]

I know!! I keep expecting one of the teachers to pop up and lecture me about berry effects or my shoes.

[She wore tennis shoes to one field trip and they just never let it go. She's got brand new hiking boots for her gym challenge, if only so Ryuji won't make fun of her if they run into him on the way.]

Well, you are pretty bad at berry effects. It's a good thing we're traveling together so I can help you out.

[She sticks out her tongue playfully at Ann. Shiho is 10 and hasn't been traumatized so she gets to have a little joyful 10 year-old energy, as a treat.

Shiho pauses to look at a sign on the road and then at the map on her pokegear. She puts her hand on her Poliwag's head to get her to stop walking and then points towards some tall grass and woods.]

It looks like we're supposed to go this way. There's probably going to be some pokemon in there.

[Morgana doesn't often have his Scyther out and about with him. It's usually his Meowth or Murkrow, who are both small and can be kept on his person if he wanted--Meowth is carryable and Murkrow likes to perch on him. His Scyther is just an inch shorter than him but is still bigger than him and has, y'know, sword arms.]

[But if anything is going to impress Ann, it's going to be Diego. Right?]

Lady Ann! Look what I caught!

[It's been a while since he's run into her, and he definitely didn't have his lucky catch when he did. Diego trails a few steps behind him, wary of new people and also of Morgana's enthusiasm; he's still getting used to his new trainer.]

Isn't he the coolest?

Morgana

A very young Trainer! Morgana's 13 years old and has started his Pokémon journey a little later than those 10 year olds running around. He's simply a more mature and prepared trainer, clearly.

Mercury the Meowth (♂) is Morgana's first Pokémon, so they've been through...not a whole lot together. But they've been through the most! Mercury is protective over Morgana, acting as if he's a big ol' Persian when strangers approach too fast or too confidently. Also that Pay Day attack has been super helpful.

Zorro the Murkrow (♂) is the Pokémon Morgana has hanging out the most often. He just looks so cool and isn't going to growl at random people like Mercury will. He's a very chill bird who likes to stay perched on Morgana's head when he's not in flight.

Diego the Scyther (♂) By a stroke of luck and a Net Ball, Morgana managed to catch a whole Scyther. He loves him and loves to brag about him when given the chance, and especially feels cool having a Pokémon just one inch shorter than him. Diego is a bit huffy about the whole "being caught" thing but he's starting to warm up to Morgana.

Aerith

I'm logged in so why not just put the one I know for sure! I'm not doing the cute little sprites, sorry guys, you'll just have to use your imagination~*~

- Aerith is a pokemon breeder who specializes in grass types. She has a whole garden of pokemon she takes care of and adopts out.

- Her one personal pokemon is an oddish named Fennel finally named after over 10 years, wow who helps her out in the garden when he's not burying himself in some nice soil.

Shun

Shun is a Trainer who's been at this for a while! He's on a personal mission to squash every last Rocket that might be strewn about Johto ever since one successfully stole his sister's beloved first Pokémon. Like, this dude's out for blood. He's also taking on all the Gym Leaders, so that's been a time. Despite Shun's roughness with people, he can get pretty soft with his Pokémon, but most people won't ever see that.

Obsidian the Honchkrow (♂) can be seen flying above Shun or hovering around him if Shun feels like having company on his journey. Obsidian is a pleasant bird who likes to be pet, but his nature seems to change in battle, becoming characteristically merciless as Honchkrows are.

Falcon the Fearow (♂) has a bad attitude and is only nice to Shun, but even then gets a little snippy. He's food motivated so Shun has to keep treats on him if he wants Falcon to listen to him when he's being particularly stubborn. Falcon is also rewarded with a treat when he wins a battle.

Ryou

Ryou is either a Trainer and a Coordinator specializing in the Cleverness category.

As a Trainer he doesn't do a whole lot of battling, just enough to keep himself and his team fed and healthy. He doesn't have much of an interest in the gym challenge, though he did take on the Violet Gym and win so he has the one badge. He likes to wander around, study the Ruins of Alph (he'd like to catch an Unown but they're just a little too slippery), and interact with as many spooky things in Johto as he can. Ryou rotates his walking Pokémon between his Haunter and Duskull mostly equally, favoring his Haunter despite his size.

As a Coordinator he's regarded as a little odd for his choice in Pokémon, but mostly on account of like...they're creepy ghosts and most people don't really show those off like he does. But Ryou's here to just give it a shot since he noticed his Pokémon know a lot of Smart moves.

Vailo the Haunter (♂) has been Ryou's Pokémon since he was a little Gastly for many years. Ryou's been interested in evolving him but hasn't found anyone to trade him with, but he's also still on the fence about it; he's grown so used to Vailo being a Haunter it's hard to imagine having a Gengar. Vailo is very light-hearted and a trickster, though as he gets older he chills out more on the pranks. He battles less these days but he packs quite the punch. Instead, he's been a champ at Contests.

Doma the Duskull (♁) is a little serious, often fading away when Vailo gets even a smidgen too rowdy. She prefers to stay close to Ryou and not wander too far off, which some have interpreted as her being shy but is really her being disinterested in being anywhere else. One of the only times Doma will leave him is when she hears crying, and she'll go hover around the person crying, interested. If they stop she'll immediately leave, bored. That's just what Duskulls are like. She's okay with Contests, she does well at them but will turn Ryou down when she's especially disinterested.

Zorc the Spiritomb (♂) is a typical Spiritomb--aggressive and destructive. With a lot of work he's more well-behaved than when Ryou caught him, but he'll sometimes still lash out when he's been aggravated or is under some kind of stress. Ryou can't have him as a walking Pokémon since Zorc isn't good with other people, as he only trusts Ryou and is stressed out by strangers. He's Ryou's main battling Pokémon since battling gives him an outlet for not letting his feelings get pent up over time. He's only sometimes up for Contests.

[It's in moments like these that Eddie thinks maybe his sister was right-- he really is too much of a pushover to train pokemon.]

[His Banette has decided that letting her contest opponents out of her sight is absolutely unacceptable, and she screeches at him any time he tries to remove her from the staging room. Not even a regular scream, the kind that qualifies as a combat move.]

[So, that's where he's at right now. He really needs to piss before they actually have to go on stage in 20 minutes, and he can't bring her with him or leave her, because the little bastard isn't above sabotaging her competition left unsupervised. He needs someone to watch her, but that is going to be a big ask from anyone who was in the room when she was screaming her horrible little head off.]

[Except-- thank whatever god has decided they don't hate Eddie after all, because someone just walked in with another ghost pokemon. Ryou, I hope you're ready to be approached by an underdressed but very handsome stranger holding a Banette at arms length. She has a huge pink bow around her neck and is absolutely covered in glitter.]

Hi, I don't know you, but I will pay you if you'll watch her for like, five minutes.

[Ryou and his Haunter have been kind of wandering around Goldenrod, Ryou flipping through his trading cards real quick while his Pokémon watches with interest.]

A few doubles, that's alright. We're just starting out.

[He pockets his booster pack pull and looks the clock on his PokéGear. Still a while until the Smart contest. He's not usually around the contest hall so early but he has nothing else better to do. They can watch the other contests if anything, that's not such a bad idea.]

[What he's not expecting is to be met with a Banette and a frantic man as soon as he walks in.]

H-huh? I--uh--s-sure?

[He holds Banette at about half an arms length because he doesn't know her and he's very, very confused. He's probably got glitter all over his shirt. His Haunter is cackling.]

[Oh, thank god.]

Thank you, I need to piss like a Rapidash, I will be right back.

[He rushes out of the staging area, leaving Ryou holding his haunted doll. She squints at him for a second, glances over at the Haunter, glances back at Ryou, and seemingly decides they aren't a threat. She wiggles contentedly and attempts to strike a pose for attention, shedding more glitter onto Ryou's hands and the floor.]

[True to his word, Eddie isn't gone for more than a few minutes, scrambling back into the room with his hands still wet from the bathroom sink.]

Oh my god, thank you, seriously, you are a life saver.

[Ryou doesn't think he's ever met such a crass person or been near so much glitter, and certainly not at the same time. All he can do is shuffle out of the doorway, still keeping the Banette a ways away from him despite it being too late for his clothes.]

You're quite...decorated, aren't you?

[When Eddie returns Ryou takes him in and hands Banette back over to him.]

Of...course. Glad to help.

[Now that his hands are free he can start trying to swipe at the glitter but it's almost no use, and his Haunter knows it; he's losing his fucking mind laughing. Ryou has long given up trying to stop him during his fits so he just kind of lets him be.]

You're a contestant...?

[Eddie's Banette makes a horrible screeching sounds and does some more happy wiggles. Yes! She is very decorated! She is adorable! More praise!]

[She responds well enough to being reclaimed by her trainer, slapping his face lightly with her floppy, glitter-coated hands and squeak-screaming. Eddie sighs and gives her a quick hug, then lets her wiggle in his arms so she can look around. She'll just scream if she can't see.]

Yeah, I am! Or, well, she is. She throws a fit if I don't let her be cute.

[He grins, too pleased to have been rescued to really care that Ryou is visibly off balance.]

Ghosts aren't my specialty, but she was my mom's and I'm the only one she likes now. I really appreciate the help.

Haruhi

Trainer here, she's one of those people who definitely studied pokemon types and battle strategy. She has 6 pokemon named after her boys.

Egg/Ellana

No glowing death hands here, just being a regular Ranger! She's so satisfied in this world just helping pokes and being out in nature. Her one pokemon partner is an Umbreon named Dirthamen.

Sayu

POKEMON COORDINATOR. She probably works with a team of other coordinators to raise pokes and compete in contests. She has her own Jigglypuff named Momo.

Lucy is either a Coordinator/Trainer with a full team, or a Ranger with Plue as a pet and Aquarius+Leo as her team.

As a Coordinator/Trainer she's a Coordinator first, Trainer second, but it might seem reversed since she battles a lot to earn money. She works in the Goldenrod Department Store and only gets to travel on her days off only a city away.

As a Ranger she can be at either base for a thread, but she loves her job and that if she ever needs extra cash they have a board of extra assignments that pay little bonuses upon completion. After a long day at her job she can come home to her nervous little dog and let her two work Pokémon let loose in her home for the night.

Plue the Growlithe (♂) is a nervous little dog, smaller than most Growlithe and less confident, too. At his insistence he's Lucy's loyal walking companion despite this. He hides behind her pretty often.

Lyra the Jigglypuff (♁) loves to sing! She's often called upon when Lucy is having trouble relaxing or sleeping. She doesn't battle too much.

Aquarius the Vaporeon (♁) has a bad attitude. She doesn't like being asked to do anything and makes this well known to Lucy with a splash of water. She's one of Lucy's most powerful Pokémon as well as her first; despite how long they've known each other, Aquarius seems to regard Lucy as a nuisance, though one she'll fiercely protect.

Cancer the Krabby (♂) should not be allowed around hair, he will try to cut it. Lucy has learned the hard way.

Taurus the Tauros (♂) is very fond of Lucy, often becoming distracted with preferring to cuddle on her than do much else.

Leo the Flareon (♂) is also very fond of Lucy, but has more self control than Taurus. He's Lucy's other most powerful Pokémon, and he loves to show off for her both in battles and contests.

Kallian Tabris

Tabris was, once upon a time, the regional champion, twice over. She hasn't technically lost that title either, she just didn't show up to defend her title the following year, having vanished into the woods with friends to... fuck, I don't think even they know what they're doing out there. Anders is there sometimes.

Feraligatr ♂ Tabris' starter pokemon! Sometimes he bites things in half! Sometimes he should not be doing that! He's a combat machine, though.

Barkspawn ♂ Tabris bonded with her Houndoom when he was a stray brought into the pokemon center badly poisoned; he loves a good fight almost as much as he loves a good tummy rub. Alistair borrowed him a lot during their original gym run and is the one who came up with the nickname.

Tyranitar ♂ Captured in the middle of terrorizing a town she visited, Tabris' Tyranitar is sort of an asshole, but he respects her enough that he doesn't make too much trouble for her.

Crobat ♂ Sometimes you spend like 6 consecutive days in the fucking deep roads some godforsaken cave and all you have to show for it is a Zubat, but you're also Tabris and you make lemonade out of those lemons.

Steelix ♀ Aaaand other times you go back into that stupid fucking cave and you get what you were there for in the first place and your boyfriend helps you trade evolve your Onix and you destroy the elite four.

Rosie ♀ Alistair caught Tabris' Roserade as a gift for her back when they were small teens first traveling together. She's still soft about it.

[Egg has been tracking this stupid Abra for three days. Every day she's found it sleeping somewhere and gotten at least one chance to challenge it and every day it slips away after a couple attacks. This is exhausting. She knows that it would be incredibly helpful to have a psychic type pokemon to add to the team but this feels almost pointless. It's a good thing her family taught her how to track and hunt before she went on this journey, otherwise she'd be screwed.

The Abra disappears again. Egg lets out a frustrated groan, drops her pokeball, and presses her hands into her eyes. She mumbles, mostly to herself.]

This is so stupid oh my god.

[She looks down at her Umbreon and gives him an affectionate pat.]

It's okay, you did your best.

[Egg lets out a long sigh and looks back towards Tabris who is hovering nearby.]

Is this even worth it?

[Traveling with someone actively trying to catch pokemon is something of a nostalgia trip-- not that Tabris is all that many years out from her own gym challenge, but it's a hassle that she's happy to be past. The last time she chased a pokemon around like this was when she roped Nate and Sigrun into catching that Meowth for Anders.]

[It's probably bad form to laugh, but she can't resist a chuckle.]

I ever tell you about the time I made poor Alistair stumble around in a cave with me for a week when I wanted an Onix? I might not be the most reliable person to ask if you're being too stubborn.

[The stumbling is also why Alistair is watching their campsite-- he is far too clumsy to stalk something that will teleport if you wake it. She glances around at the trees surrounding them, making a thoughtful sound.]

How much are quick balls going for these days? You might be better off just chucking one at the damn thing the minute you see it.

[Egg frowns at the chuckle. She's allowed to be a little pouty, she's just a kid, but she relaxes when Tabris shares her story. Well, at least she's not alone. Egg reaches down to grab the pokéball she dropped and puts it back in her bag.]

Ugh, that would probably be easier. I just wanted to see if I could do it on my own...

[She sits down next to her Umbreon with a frustrated look on her face and wraps an arm around his shoulders. Dirthamen leans towards her and nuzzles against her head softly.]

They're 1000 poké-dollars, so not cheap, but it's better than wasting a bunch of regular pokéballs, I guess...How far are we from town again?

[Tabris nods understandingly.]

Yeah, I feel you. But it isn't cheating to outsmart your enemy instead of overpowering them, you know. Right tools for the job and all.

[She joins Egg on the ground with absolutely zero attempt at grace, letting her legs sprawl out haphazardly.]

Ever seen one of Morrigan's matches? Her Gothitelle has shadow tag and I used to borrow her when we went hunting for new pokemon. If anything, that was cheating.

[She gives Egg a friendly grin, trying to be encouraging, then squints up at the tree line, shading her eyes with her hand.]

Couple hours, I think? We could wait until tomorrow if you want to give it another go, though.

[Egg is still pouting a bit but she nods while listening. Tabris is really smart and knows what she's talking about. It's really comforting to have someone who's already done this around and especially with friends. She'd been alone for a while before she ran into Tabris and her boyfriend and things have been going so much smoother ever since. Egg knows they'll probably have to part ways soon but maybe she can keep this mentoring going just a little longer. Not every new trainer gets to hang out with a previous champion so she's going to enjoy it while she can.

She removes her arm from Dirthamen's shoulders and lets out a puff of air. Egg's face shifts into a determined expression,]

Okay, one more time. If it escapes again we can go to town.

[Egg pats her thighs and pushes herself back into a standing position. She offers her hand to Tabris for leverage.]

Alistair doesn't mind waiting a little longer right?

[Tabris grins brightly, pride obvious on her face.]

[She takes the offered hand and pulls herself up. She's definitely got dirt on her pants but doesn't even make a token effort to brush it off.]

Al's fine, if he gets bored he'll just eat all the snacks. Might do that even if he doesn't get bored, actually.

[Somehow, she manages to make that lighthearted complaint sound deeply affectionate. She loves her dumb boy.]

We can have my Crobat do a loop of the area if you want to fast track the scouting. He's sleepy this time of day but I've got a couple of biscuits in my bag, he's easy to bribe.

Rebecca

Rebecca is a Coordinator/Trainer! She's dreamed of getting the most and highest ribbons ever for a couple of years now, but has been a trainer for longer. She loves getting attention and fame, and whenever she's in Goldenrod she wears glasses to "protect her identity" as if she's super popular (which she's...not).

Happy the Persian (♂) is an older Pokémon, having been with Rebecca since he was a wee Meowth when she was a child. They've been through everything together and Rebecca can't imagine life without him. He still battles and does contests, but has slowed down in his older years.

Nyanko the Delcatty (♁) is gentle and passive. She battles alright and excels at contests.

Mewni the Purugly (♁) is a little stuck-up but she's just as into attention and fame as Rebecca is so she loves to be front and center in everything--contests and battles alike.

Yusuke

Yusuke is a Coordinator/Trainer! But mostly he's an artist, which isn't a class but that's what he does. He carries around sketchbooks, small canvases (he had to give up on hauling around large ones), paints, pencils, etc., and those take up most of his luggage space. He doesn't enter contests that often, just when he feels Inspired or rather thinks he'll be inspired seeing Pokémon perform at them. As a Trainer he's really good at what he does, though he might not appear to be; he's trained both his Pokémon very well.

Goemon the Smeargle (♂) is a little on the serious side, but despite this Yusuke often has to keep him from defacing public property with his graffiti--he simply can't afford the fines. Instead Yusuke will buy large sheets of paper for Goemon to use since his smaller canvases just don't cut it.

Setsuna the Glaceon (♁) is easy-going and an ideal model. She can stay in one position for long periods of time without moving, and then bounces to life to see what Yusuke's drawn of her. She's very soft and makes very cute little noises of affection.

Akira

In Akira's ideal life, he'd probably be a coordinator full time-- the kid lives for dramatic flourishes and showmanship. Unfortunately, sometimes you get framed for a crime and end up going after rockets to clear your name, which is hard to do if your pokemon are only trained to look cool.

Arsene ♂ Yeah, Akira's Charizard is shiny. It fits the color scheme and also plays into that backstory, because he was nearly robbed of his starter himself back when Arsene was just a baby, and Akira got caught holding a bunch of stolen pokemon getting him back.

Jack Frost ♂ While commonly underestimated, Akira's Azumarill is a beast, decked out in TM moves to play off its ridiculous huge power-boosted attack stat. It's a water type that regularly destroys grass pokemon with a solid ice punch. Don't mess with Jack.

Alice ♀ Akira's Mismagius is a terrifying little thing, prone to fits of giggles that usually follow some kind of dangerous prank or just violence for violence's sake. Die for me!

Abaddon ♂ Another nightmare, almost as much for Akira and his friends as for the people they mess up with this guy. Stays in his pokeball except in VERY well ventilated areas.

Seth ♂ Way too into violence. He's obedient, which is lucky, because he'd have killed at least one opponent by now if he hasn't.

Odin ♂ Actually the least violent of the bunch, he's always willing to charge pokegears and dexs for forgetful members of Akira's traveling party.

[Yusuke finally has enough money after food for his Pokémon and replacement paints to get himself a snack from a food stand in the city he's stopped in. The aroma of flavors could make his mouth water. His Glaceon is patiently waiting in line with him since he was having a time keeping his Smeargle from defacing the building walls today. His eyes are cast down, so he's mostly seeing Pokémon and torsos pass by.]

[Someone--a boy, he guesses--passes by him and at first he thinks nothing of it; plenty of boys pass him by. But then something catches his eye and, as if pulled by a force, he rushes away from his spot in line for the food stand to chase after him; Setsuna reacts quickly but she yelps in confusion as she chases him down.]

[In his mind he's asking the boy with the Azumarill to stop, but instead he reaches out, closer and closer, until he touches his shoulder. He needs something from him.]

[Today--well, night--is one where Morgana is holding his Meowth in his arms, and Mercury certainly doesn't mind, purring up a little storm. He manages to free enough of an arm and bend his head down enough to rub at his eye; he's getting sleepy and it's getting dark. He looks up at the sky as he walks beside Akira and sighs.]

Hmm...we should go to bed soon. Are we near a town or are we going to have to set up camp?

[He doesn't mind either way, he just knows he physically can't stay up late. He's not that kind of kid.]

Tifa

She used to be an amazing trainer, but has since retired after winning a couple of championships. She had a small stint as a gym leader (fighting types) for a short while but has retired from doing that as well. She now runs a café/bar that also doubles as lodging for travelling young trainers to stay. The upstairs apartment has a couple of rooms she keeps clean and orderly for kids passing through. She also has quite a bit of land behind her home/bar where she offers to help train trainers and coordinators alike. She has SO MANY pokémon now.

The First
Sky the Marowak ♂ He's Tifa's first pokémon so he's getting a little old now. He was a Cubone and a big crybaby when they first started traveling together, Tifa often had to cuddle and hug him. When he evolved he became a little more aloof, though he still stuck to her side like glue and was a wee bit possessive.

Gym Leader Team Sky was part of the team too, and usually the last to go since he isn't a fighting type

Keter the Hitmonchan ♂ He's quiet and tends to keep to himself. Not necessarily serious or isolated, as he does care for his companions and Tifa, but he's almost got like a stoic big brother personality.

Chokmah the Lucario ♂ Very intelligent and almost a little arrogant. Kinda edgy and cool, though Tifa likes teasing his "cool" personality.

Binah the Medicham ♀ Kind and understanding. Extremely patient and a bit of a comfort companion.

Da'at the Gallade ♂ Noble and protective, but also a little to excited to help. Almost cocky during a fight.

Chesed the Blaziken ♂ He's more of a lover than a fighter and was often the first to go out during her gym days. He's very strong, don't underestimate him, he's just also a very sweet boy who loves hugs and holding hands.

Gevurah the Slaking ♀ Tends to forget her own strength. She often flops just wherever, but generally likes to mess around with her opponents in battle. Otherwise she likes to play harmless pranks on Tifa and the other pokés (and sometimes her patrons).

Tiferet the Umbreon ♀ Very friendly and kind. She tries her best to be helpful and checks in on Tifa and the other pokés often. She's especially fond of young new trainers.

Netzach the Porygon-Z [] Kinda mysterious, but she's run into a lot of good luck since she got it. It seems to like her well enough so that's good enough for Tifa.

Hod the Flygon ♀ Hod is clearly a pokémon that wanted to be a part of Contest girl. She's very strong but she's more interested in looking majestic and cool and showing off and she's just very theatrical. Tifa will often put on little shows for the kids in town with her, which is how she learned the little bit of Coordinating that she has learned. Tifa enjoys getting to do this with Hod who clearly thrive with the attention.

Yesod the Xatu ♂ He's pretty serious and feels like Tifa's own personal sentinel. He's almost scary sometimes, honestly.

Malkuth the Dugtrio ♂ He's a fun guy. Likes to just pop up out of the ground and make Tifa fill the holes sometimes. Very social.

Cosmo the Drifloon ♂ Has literally tried to kidnap children before. He's a chaotic prankster.

Sol the Shellder ♀ Very shy, very scared, just wants to be held.

Nibel the Torchic ♂ Prideful, insecure, likes to show off to Tifa in particular but doesn't really care for anyone else. Chesed (the Blaziken) likes to dote on him and care for him.

Midee the Dratini ♀ Very curious and adventurous, Tifa often has to keep a close eye on her. She's found her in trainer's bags many times.

[Aerith heard from other breeders that walking with pokémon eggs usually helps them hatch sooner for whatever reason so she's decided to take a walk around town to see if that helps. Plus, it's a great excuse to visit Tifa.

She wanders into the café/bar with a basket full of eggs and looks around, trying to spot her friend.]

Aerith!

[Tifa put the chairs she was moving down before waving at her friend from the corner of her bar. She gestured at the bar to Aerith before helping getting the current group of trainers settle down at a table. They already had drinks and food and all thanked Tifa as she waved and made her way over to Aerith.]

What brings you around here today?

[She was eying the basket. Sometimes Aerith brought her flowers do decorate with or freshly baked bread.]

[She places the basket on the bar and moves aside the small blanket holding in the eggs.]

I'm taking these new eggs on a walk. It's supposed to make them hatch sooner, or something...

[Tifa aww'd as Aerith revealed the eggs in the basket, careful when she gently touched one of them.]

Well I'm always happy to have you. Do you know what's gonna hatch out of them?

[Tifa had many pokémon around and she had the space for them, so it wouldn't really be an issue. Plus this one would from Aerith, and Tifa had always wanted one from her. Aerith worked very hard as a breeder, though she was a natural.]

Vilmar was always in this more for the traveling than the training itself, but he keeps stumbling into people's evil plans or natural disasters, and he's very famous by now as a heroic trainer. He always seems a little baffled by this.

Taji ♂ Vilmar's chocobo first pokemon, he's extremely spoiled and loves other birdie pokemon, but isn't so sure about other pokemon.

Eos ♀ Sweet, playful, and a little mischievous, Vilmar's ever-present fairy friend. Lovely with strangers.

Fray ♂ And then there's this fucker. Even Vilmar's boyfriend doesn't see this one out of fights, even though he's never in his pokeball. He's just always lurking in a shadow. Stop doing that.

Applejack

Applejack makes the rounds around Johto collecting fruit, berries, and apricots for clients! Her PokéGear is filled to the brim with phone numbers and she remembers every single one! She works for her family business that's spread all across the globe while her and her little immediate family are settled nice and comfy out in the country in this region. When she's not riding around on her Rapidash she's walking with her Growlithe. She doubles as a Trainer, but doesn't have a direct interest in the gym challenge; she'd rather rack up her win-lose score if anyone's bothering to keep track.

Winona the Growlithe (♀) is her most loyal pup! She helps AJ keep other Pokémon at bay when she's collecting things, corral them if they get too wild, and she also headbutts things and Pokémon from trees (which AJ apologizes to the poor pokes for every time).

Fuji the Ivysaur (♀) has the role of "if AJ can't reach it, it's Vine Whip time!" and she seems to enjoy it! She's the only team member who can actually help Applejack pick things out of trees and off bushes, even if Winona has a soft puppy mouth with which to hold things; it's just not quite the same as multiple vines firmly grasping multiple picked things.

Honeycrisp the Rapidash (♀) carries both all the produce picked and Applejack, so she's both strong and fast. She's been with Applejack since she was a little baby Ponyta and trusts her like no other. Applejack always makes sure Honeycrisp gets her cut of the apples picked for all the hard work she puts into transportation. She's also Applejack's strongest line of defense, but she's also her last.

Rarity

Rarity is a Coordinator and will fight with her fists before she lets her Pokémon jump into the fray. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration, sometimes a group of men gang up on you trying to steal all your gems and you have to have your Butterfree put them all to sleep, but she'll try to solve the problem on her own, first! She prioritizes keeping her Pokémon well fed, groomed, and ready for the shows. Her other job is clothes making from her little shop in Goldenrod, specializing in dresses and things more fashionable than shorts and t-shirts. She dreams of going to other regions to enter their contests and show off her designs and catch the eye of other ladies...she has small wants.

Bismuth the Butterfree (♂) is a beautiful shiny Butterfree Rarity lost her mind over when he was but a wee Caterpie. He's definitely the crowd favorite of her three, and he's been raised on attention and praise since he was small. He's a little spoiled.

Opal the Skitty (♀) is...difficult. Most of the time she's a pleasant Skitty, but other times she's one misdirected pet from hissing and clawing. She's a perfect during shows and is well-behaved in the contest halls, it's just at home when she gets...fussy.

Ruby the Sableye (♀) is much more of a little gremlin that Rarity's other two Pokémon. She's the odd one out, but Rarity hardly notices; she's loved her since she caught her, who wouldn't find that face endearing? Opal isn't a huge fan, but there are few things Opal's a fan of. Ruby helps Rarity dig for gemstones in caves, which she gets a cut of as a snack while Rarity uses the rest in her most extravagant pieces.

Twilight Sparkle

Twilight doesn't easily fall under a traditional class. She's a researcher of the Pokémon of the region, but not of their breeding habits or battling abilities. Her biggest area of study is the relationship between humans and Pokémon, as requested of her by her mentor Celestia from her home region of Sinnoh. Her secret area of study was Friendship and how to Create Bonds With Other People, which she's been doing better at! She has some phone numbers save to her PokéGear! She doesn't really battle, but she can if necessary.

Spike the Gible (♂) is her #1 assistant! He's also her baby, and has been her baby for quite a while. He's due to evolve any time now.

Owlicious the Hoothoot (♂) is her #1 nocturnal assistant! He helps guide her at night and keep a lookout for anyone who might want to challenge her.

Stella the Espeon (♀) is battle-ready and also very cuddly. She'll kick ass and then go rub up on Twilight's leg for attention immediately after.

Frederick the F Unown (☓) is...a mystery. She caught it at the Ruins while studying them, and has been meaning to transfer it to Celestia but has had trouble bringing herself to part from a teammate. Something worth writing to Celestia about!
