[For the first time since he woke up, Shinji smiles, just a little. He can tell he said something right, and that immediately makes him feel just a little bit less shitty. He relies on external validation a terrifying amount.]

I, um, already make lunch for myself every day so-- it wouldn't be any trouble.

[He blushes a little when Haruhi offers him food again. He takes stock of how his body actually feels and quietly admits.]

I could probably eat something.

[It would probably help with the headache even more than the painkillers he took. Boy, how many days were you in that dungeon?]

[He's smiling! What a relief. Haruhi is pretty sure she's never seen him smile even at school. She hopes that she can keep saying things that make him smile like that now that she's seen what he's been through.]

The team will be so grateful.

[Haruhi shifts so that she can stand up.]

Can you walk or do you want me to bring you something?

[Shinji blushes, just a little. He's not prepared for gratitude.]

It's the least I can do. You guys did a lot for me.

[He hesitates on the 'can you get up'. Now that he's awake and starting to actually calm down, he's realizing that he's going to need to get up, and in pretty short order. His bladder insists.]

Um-- I'll try to stand up.

[He would prefer not to explain that reasoning. It takes some effort to stand up, and his head spins when he does, but the dizziness fades as he takes a few steadying breaths.]

[Haruhi holds out her elbow towards Shinji, offering it to help him stabilize. It's a gesture that comes naturally after months of hosting. Her expression turns to one of concern.]

Don't push yourself too much, you must still be tired.

[Whether he takes her elbow or not she leads him into the other room where her small kitchen and living room are. The bathroom is between the kitchen area and the living room and she gestures towards her table.]

You can use the cushion there if you want.

[Past a set of sliding doors there's a small altar for Haruhi's mom opposite a tv as well as a bookshelf with some family pictures on it. The tv is off and there's a small stack of homework on the table next to Haruhi's phone.]

I can heat us up some leftovers. It's not much but it's a little late to go to the store for more ingredients. I hope you don't mind.

[Shinji accepts the offer of an elbow while his head is still spinning, but immediately gets shy about it and lets go once he feels less like he might tip over. Haruhi's apartment is... cozy, for lack of a better term. It feels lived in, in a way that gives him a pang of envy that he quickly shakes off. Now is absolutely not the time to get melancholy about his empty apartment and even emptier family.]

Oh, leftovers are fine! You don't need to go out of your way on my behalf, I'm not picky with food.

[He gestures vaguely at the bathroom, which should probably get his point across.]

Of course, go ahead.

[She smiles and turns back towards the kitchen to take a look at what she has laying around. Once she finds some food Haruhi looks at her kettle and wonders if this would be a good time to have some tea. It could be comforting and at least hydrating. Might as well do a little extra to make Shinji comfortable. It's been a long...well, however long he's been trapped in that dungeon anyway.]
