[Kuroko never thought he'd have a favorite coffee shop. He's never really been that kind of person. Usually coffee is more of a utility drink for him rather than a drink for pleasure, it's too bitter to enjoy. In spite of that, he keeps finding himself coming back to the shop that's not quite on the way to his college often enough that he's considered a regular.

At the beginning of the school year he happened to wander into this particular coffee shop to get something to wake himself up in the middle of an afternoon full of back-to-back lectures. That's when he met Murasakibara. He didn't plan to buy himself something to eat, too, but after a chat at the register with the tallest man Kuroko has ever seen in his life Kuroko couldn't help but be convinced to try his favorite snack.

Ever since that day Kuroko has been stopping in almost every day to buy a vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant and today is no different. He smiles when he sees his kind of friend from outside of the window and enters the shop.]

[Murasakibara doesn't usually care about regulars. They seem to care about him to a degree, giving him weird nicknames to do with his height and size, but that's the problem: they act too familiar just because they come in everyday and Murasakibara knows their orders. It's annoying. What pests, honestly.]

[Except for Kuroko. That guy's cool. He's different. He's quiet and there's something about him that's chill in a way no one else is. Murasakibara appreciates it. He's given up on ever trying to spot Kuroko in a crowd, instead just leaving it up to whenever Kuroko is right in front of him; the guy's a freaking ghost. Today is no different. Whenever Kuroko gets to the counter, Murasakibara holds up his hand to stop him from ordering.]

Hold on.

[He squats down a far distance to retrieve something from under the counter. When he comes back up he places a pastry bag containing a chocolate croissant on the counter and nudges it towards Kuroko.]

I saved you one, Kurochin. They were going fast and our baker took off early.

[Honestly, he felt some pleasure in telling customers they were all out of them when he knew he had one squirreled away for Kuroko.]

[Kuroko smiles warmly up at Murasakibara. This is incredibly sweet. It doesn't seem like Mursakibara is this thoughtful to anyone else so it makes Kuroko feel very special.]

Thank you, I appreciate it.

[He pulls the bag towards himself and starts pulling out his wallet.]

Just this and the vanilla latte, please. How has your shift been today?

[That smile? Murasakibara likes it. He's not one to usually care about stuff like that, but he does appreciate positive affirmation and Kuroko's smile in return for his deed is enough for him.]

[If he were faster on the register he would've had Kuroko's drink in already, but he started it before Kuroko started talking so that's something. He holds out his hand for Kuroko's payment, having to remember not to hold it out too far or it "scares the customers" or whatever stupid shit his manager tells him.]

Eh? Oh, it's fine. Boring, the usual. 'Bout you?

[There's no one behind Kuroko at the moment, but honestly Murasakibara would hold up the line just to talk to him. He doesn't give a fuck.]

[Kuroko hands over the payment for his coffee and takes a bite of the chocolate croissant Murasakibara saved for him. Delicious. It's even more delicious knowing that Murasakibara saved it specifically for him.]

Not too bad but I do have a lot of work to do today.

[He pulls on the strap of his backpack for emphasis.]

I'm going to stay for a while to get it done.

[Kuroko likes spending time at this coffee shop. The environment is nice, there's plenty of seating, and he can watch Murasakibara work. He is a little rough around customers, which Kuroko finds funny, and, he admits to himself, he might have a little crush. Kuroko sometimes wonders why Murasakibara even works at this place but he's never gotten the opportunity to ask.]

Are you here for much longer?

[Murasakibara takes his sweet time processing the payment, which considering how easy it is is a feat.]

Work? That sucks.

[He hands Kuroko back his card and lets his arms hang at his sides while he waits for the printer to print the receipt. Takes longer for him to grab it from there and the printer is notoriously slow.]

Oh, nah, got a short shift today. Works out for me, I'm starving.

[And there goes the printer. He waits for it to finish before he moves to take it out and hand it over.]

Off in fifteen, couldn't come faster. This place blows.

[The amount he doesn't care is just. Palpable.]

[Kuroko chuckles.]

I don't mind, it's easier to get work done here.

[He shrugs at Murasakibara.]

I like it.

[Kuroko looks around, doesn't seem like anyone is coming in.]

I don't have to get started right away if you need a distraction.
