» 1. always night - sure is dark, huh? has it always been so late so long? » 2. camp unsafe isn't safe anymore - wasn't summer camp supposed to be, like, fun and stuff? » 3. new house new problems - this place is perfect and you got such a good dealon it, what could go wrong? » 4. the calls are coming from inside the house - there's no sign of a break-in, so what's with all the creepy shit going on in the house? » 5. the little shop that wasn't there yesterday - well, it wasn't. the shop keeper seems...fine. as fine as "suspicious" can get, at least. » 6. don't go in the woods - there's a reason no one tells you to actually go into the woods » 7. abandoned hospital - doesn't every town have one of these creepy things on the outskirts? » 8. haunted castle - sure, it was a nice place to run into as shelter from the rain, but who--or what--is waiting for you inside? » 9. town with a dark secret - people are being real shifty about their town for no apparent reason

» 1. costumes - costumes!!! the best part! there's probably a contest, maybe with cash prizes if the host is generous enough, or maybe just bragging rights until next year. » 2. party games - there's bobbing for apples, pin the face piece on the pumpkin (if that's a thing), group card games...plenty of options out there! » 3. selfie corner - it's a fold-up table with all kinds of props and a selfie stick on it, have fun! » 4. dance floor - either a dj is controlling the music or someone's spotify playlist. either way, it's time to get dancing and show off your moves! » 5. buffet - pizza? potluck? desserts??? spiked punch??? who knows what the spread's like! » 6. bar - might be a paid-for open bar or just an assortment of beers and wine coolers. » 7. quiet rooms - need a break? the guest bedroom is free to chill out in. or the bathroom if that's your thing. » 8. the host's pets - know who's better than people? the dog and/or the cat. » 9. going home - party's over, are you helping with clean up or are you dragging yourself home?

[Kuroko watches Shinji awkwardly introduce himself and can't help the small chuckle that escapes what's left of his body. It's a soft sound and not at all malicious. Kuroko can't help but find himself a little charmed by how polite Shinji is being. He smiles.]

If you don't mind the company, sure.

[He picks up the basketball again, hesitating a moment before walking, well--more like floating, closer to Shinji. Kuroko could walk through him or through the wall but if Shinji is treating him like a person he might as well behave like one.]

[Shinji flushes with embarrassment when Kuroko laughs-- there's nothing mean about it, but he's an anxious kid, it's easy enough to make him nervous. Still, he lived with Asuka for two years during the testing. He's good at socializing through the squirming social anxiety at this point.]

[He even manages a little smile, although he can't quite make eye contact.]

Yeah, company... would be nice, actually. It's been a while since I've lived anywhere quiet.

[He steps back to invite Kuroko into the apartment. It's warm inside, with the scent of dashi floating from the kitchen to make the whole place smell like Shinji's soup stock.]

[How lonely must Shinji be to want the company of a ghost? Kuroko can't help but wonder. He floats past Shinji into the apartment and takes in the sight of it. It's sparsely decorated and it looks like Shinji hasn't recycled his boxes from moving in yet.

In spite of having been dead for some time, Kuroko still doesn't know what to do with his ghost body most of the time. He ends up leaving his basketball by the door and moving to hover in the kitchen.]

[He looks into the pot. Part of him wonders what it would be like to put his ghost body inside but he resists the temptation.]

This smells nice, are you a chef?

[Very lonely, Kuroko. Very, very lonely.]

[Watching Kuroko float through the apartment without needing to move his legs really sets the reality of this moment in Shinji's mind. He's speaking with the dead right now, and it's still roughly as awkward as suddenly having to talk to someone from school.]

[Food, though. Food's easy, even if he can't offer to let Kuroko actually eat it.]

Um, I guess so? I like to cook and my guardian through high school would have lived on snacks and beer if I'd let her.

[Kuroko watches Shinji. He can tell he landed on a good topic, Shinji isn't stuttering anymore. Kuroko wishes he could try whatever he's making. The only thing he ever learned how to make while he was alive was boiled eggs.

It also sounds like Shinji had a pretty questionable guardian before moving here. Kuroko decides not to ask about it though. He guesses Shinji would rather keep talking about cooking.

Kuroko fades from view for a moment while he observes the environment and reappears, with a soft whoosh, next to Shinji.]
