It's time for a picnic! Are you on a date or just hanging out with a friend? What kind of food did you bring--homemade, store-bought, or take-out? The nice thing about picnics is you can have them just about anywhere, like the park or your front lawn or that little grassy patch by your apartment building. You don't even have to sit on the ground, honestly, that's what picnic tables are for! Hopefully it's a nice sunny day and you don't get rained out, but maybe you brought an umbrella just in case.

[It probably says something about Sojiro that Morgana was more of an obstacle to Akira sneaking out at night than his probation guardian. There was a lot of complaining while Akira cooked and sorted everything into neat bento containers, dampened only slightly by his foresight to make enough to leave Morgana behind with a hearty dinner of his own.]

[It’s already dark when Akira catches his train, and he spends the trip over to the Kosei dorms overaware of his bag. The weight is off without Morgana, but the food is still warm enough that he can feel it through the thick canvas. He doesn’t smile much in public, but he keeps catching himself grinning, a little too giddy for his composure to hold.]

[It’s silly, really— the park near Yusuke’s dorm is too close to the city for halfway decent stargazing. They’d have better luck at the planetarium, but the point isn’t really the stars. The point is that when they did go to the planetarium, Yusuke didn’t pull away when Akira held his hand in the dark.]

[They’re meeting outside the dorms, somewhere with streetlights so they can find each other without making too much commotion. Akira is a little bit early, but he knows where to look in case Yusuke is too.]

[Tonight's event was busy buzzing in his head, leaving him restless, unfocused. It was all he could do to pull on his clothes and head to their meeting spot, watch the people pass by until the sky caught his eye. He remembers the quinacridone magenta of the sunset as it faded away into the deep blue-black of night; he tries to recall if it sits in his collection of tubes. Maybe it's one of the ones rolled up so tight it's hardly a tube at all anymore. Maybe he lacks it at all.]

[Moreover, he remembers Akira's hand in his, gentle in the dark. He recalls the vivid vision of colors that took form from that moment on, building and building, coming to a head until he could put his brush to canvas and release the joy he otherwise felt he couldn't fully express. He intends to show it to Akira when he's finished, he's been working on it non-stop, but in a twist of fate the promise of seeing the inspiration for the piece caused him to be distracted from it. And so here he is, waiting under the streetlight, bathed in a pale cadmium yellow wash.]

[Yusuke catches a familiar figure in the corner of his eye. He turns and his heart swells. This feeling is...incomprehensible. It's new. It's...warm. He doesn't mind it at all. He checks his phone for the time, then smiles with his eyes shut. Of course.]

You're early. Why am I not surprised?

[But he can't stay not looking at Akira for long. His eyes flutter back open and that feeling in his chest gets him all over again.]

[Yusuke's voice is enough to knock the last vestiges of Akira's composure to the side, and he gives up on keeping his emotions off his face. He smiles, delight leaving him feeling weightless. He'd come here specifically to see him but it still feels like a happy surprise, a little thrill going through him.]

You're early too.

[And isn't that something, that Yusuke was just as eager to see him as he was.
Akira steps in closer, until he gets right up to the edge of too close for ambiguity. Then he takes one extra step, getting close enough to put a hand on Yusuke's arm as he tilts his head in the direction of the park.]

Works out, though. The food will still be warm if we walk over now.

[And it's more time together, but he supposes he doesn't really have to say that out loud.]

[Aerith has invited her date friends over for a picnic in her garden. The view is really nice and it's rare that she gets to share it with anyone for more than a few minutes. Today, though, she's forcing it on them.

Aerith has already set up a large picnic blanket in a spot up on one of the small hills overlooking the water and has instructed Cloud and Tifa to sit and wait there while she gets food from her house nearby. She knows that if she let Tifa she would help her bring things out but her girlfriend deserves a break! And don't get her started on Cloud. She's pretty sure he would just hover around awkwardly if she didn't give him a spot to sit.

No, today, everyone is going to sit and have a nice date whether they like it or not!]

[Whenever Zack goes on a long trip out of town he always tells Aerith about all of the beautiful sights he sees and how he wants to show them to her. Normally, the idea of leaving home makes her a little nervous, but this time he told her about a place that was less than a day's trip out and suggested making a date of it. It's pretty hard to say no to that even if it's a little outside of her comfort zone.

Aerith is wearing a cute pink sundress to match the ribbon Zack bought her all that time ago and is holding a cute basket on her lap. There's a blanket inside for them to sit on when they get there along with some food they bought on the way out. She's looking out the side window and watching the scenery pass by when she turns back towards Zack.]

So...how much farther?

[There it is again, that splash of colors spilling over his vision as Akira's hand lands on his arm. He's warm. He's probably the normal human amount of warm, but Yusuke hardly knows what it's like to touch another person so what would he know? Akira's been his sole source of contact in...well, should he bother to recount the missing? And never mind the warmth, the slight pressure is more than welcome; it's soothing, even in its smallness.]

[Yusuke exhales, his smile slight. He gladly welcomes the food, never one to turn it down, but he would be just as happy standing here with Akira like this, right here.]

Yes, of course. Shall we?

[He wants...something. He wants to hold onto Akira like at the planetarium. Is that something they can do out in the open as they please? Should he be the one to instigate that?]
